The number one question I get asked before photo sessions is “what should we wear?”. If you’ve emailed with me before about wardrobe you know that word coordinate…it’s in my buzz phrase for wardrobe “Don’t match, coordinate!”. Gone are the days of matching jeans and white or black shirts for family photos…wear some colours! It doesn’t take a genius to recognize I LOVE colour, all it takes is one look at my logo, so there is nothing I love more than showing up at shoot to see a family dressed in bright bold colours!
Don’t be afraid to mix in some patterns! Accessorize – bring along hats, bracelets or a cute scarf! A few rules of thumb of what to avoid – big logos and having everyone match. Choosing your wardrobe is a time to let your kids show off their personalities!
When choosing the wardrobe for your shoot it’s important that you choose clothing that your kiddos will feel comfortable in while sitting, standing, running, rolling etc. I will often as them to sit on the grass or cement so make sure it’s clothing you will be comfortable seeing them do this in!
There are lots of great tools for helping you decide what to wear – for starters, my blog! Scroll through and see what other families are wearing. OR head on over to Pinterest and check out the oodles of ideas posted there. I even have a board dedicated to “What to Wear“. Also, i’m always up for helping with this task so also don’t be afraid to send me an email, I’ve had a client or two send me pictures of the wardrobe they were deciding between and I loved being able to help!
When choosing your wardrobe for summer shoots add some colour….I dare you!
With fall photo season now in full swing I thought it would be the perfect time to share another thing on my Love List! The number one question I get asked before photo sessions is “what should we wear?”. I know first hand this is not an easy question to answer! For my own photo shoot I tried my dress on with 3 pairs of tights with a combination of three different pairs of shoes before I decided that I had it just right! Something that you can use as a tool when deciding what to wear is Pinterest! I have a number of different boards on my Pinterest page dedicated to helping YOU coordinate the perfect outfits for your family! If you’ve emailed with me before about wardrobe you know that word coordinate…it’s in my buzz phrase for wardrobe “Don’t match, coordinate!”. Gone are the days of matching jeans and white or black shirts for family photos…wear some colour! Mix in some patterns! AND most importantly dress for the weather! This brings me to my wardrobe topic of the day…LAYERS!
You never know what kind of weather you are going to get a fall photo session, one session this passed weekend it was pushing 30 degrees and the very next day it was 14 degrees! Instead of just throwing on one bulky jacket for photos, layer it on! Mexx, J.Crew, Gap and Old Navy are all great websites to get some ideas from how to layer your outfits along with lighter layers of outerwear on top. Then as your kids warm up during the session you can remove some layers and it’s almost like a wardrobe change without having to change! Don’t be afraid to add in scarves and hats for a few photos too!
Hoodies and cardigans are a also a great way to keep your kiddos warm and it’s so easy to find them in almost every colour in the rainbow, stripes, polka dots….the options out there are endless!
There are SO many cute dresses and skirts out this season and if you had done planned for your daughter for your session don’t feel like you have to change your plans if it’s chilly out….add in some leggings, leg warmers, boots and you’re good to go!
If you feel like you’re having a wardrobe crisis before your shoot, don’t worry….when in doubt bring options!!
Happy Fall!!
