So, the contest deadline came and went and when it was all said and done we were left with 15 fantastic stories about best friends and even our first nomination!  Touching, funny and heartfelt stories, stories that after you read them they will make you smile and thing of your own best friend, how great they are and how much fun you have when you’re together.  It was fitting that the evening I get this post ready I have just come home from a trip to Vancouver with one of my BFFs….there really is nothing better than a weekend of shoptailing (shopping mixed with cocktails :) ) with your bestest!

So without further adue…..here are our 15 entries!  Take a read and then cast your vote at the end of the post!  AND then head over to Kara’s blog to cast your vote over there too…that’s right…you get TWO votes!  Make them count!!!

Alyssa and Leah

Leah-and-Alyssa copy

My name is Alyssa Neufeld (on the right), and my best friend is Leah Klassen (on the left).  Leah and I met in 2008 in our grade 12 year through mutual friends. It’s because of her that I met my husband. They had become friends because they had both been homeschooled most of their lives. Leah and I clicked instantly. We were both tall (both 5’10″-5’11″) and wore glasses, and we both loved to read. Over the short time we’ve been friends, we’ve been together through a lot, and we share a lot of things, like a favourite TV show (How I Met Your Mother), and we both drool over Jacob Black. She’s a university student, and even when she’s away a lot and we don’t get to see each other as often as we would like, once we’re together, it’s like we were never apart. We laugh together and we’ve shared a lot of experiences together. She’s seen me get married (she was my maid of honour) and she’s there for me now as I’m going to be a mom. I’ve been there for her through different relationships, and I helped set her up with her current boyfriend. Even when we don’t necessarily agree on things, we never judge each other. To sum things up, and to quote our favourite tv character, our friendship is nothing short of legen-(wait for it)-dary.

Amanda and Joanne

Amanda and Joanne copy

As Jo and I were getting prepared to enter we looked through our years of pictures and realized that other than wedding pictures we have ONE picture of the two of us together. So yesterday morning, Jo’s son Seth (4 years old) took this picture of us. It is the “we’re moms and haven’t showered this morning yet but wanted to be together so here we are” look.

Joanne and I are like the perfect pair of jeans and your favorite hoodie. Totally comfortable, never get sick of it, and always goes together perfectly.

We have been friends since high school. Spending many hours sitting in Twister’s drinking coke slurpees, talking about boys. Living together during University, learning many important lessons about each other, such as “never speak to Joanne before she talks to you in the mornings” and apparently “I clang my spoon against the edge of my cereal bowl too many times as I’m eating”. (Well,  that kinda goes with the don’t speak to me in the morning thing . . . ) We played many practical jokes on our other roommates (toothpaste under the door knob – classic), and had the motto “no bras” as we often ran across Pembina in our jammies to the 7-11 for, you guessed it, coke slurpees. Or to Wendy’s for a late night burger for me. Joanne was right beside me when I married my high school sweetheart and Amanda drudged through the snow carrying my flowers on the blizzardy day I got married. The lessons we learned from Jo’s sisters the night before her wedding still resonate in my mind.  Mine too, tee hee!

When my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer, Jo’s number was the first I dialed. She knew when I needed a distraction and didn’t want to talk about, or when I just needed someone to listen. The support and listening heart that she was, got me through the battle for her mom’s life.  And I totally feel like I failed you during this time.  I wish I would have done more.  Been there more.

We are now both mom’s and we love each other’s children  like they are our own.  We have daily morning phone calls just to check in and see how the day is going.  We have exactly the same shopping style and taste in clothes (lulu lemon here we come).  We get grumpy at the same time, yet usually not at each other.  We know when the other needs space.  We can talk about nothing and we can talk about everything.  The many secrets that we have shared are buried in our hearts.  We have different hobbies, Jo is creative in all things and I love to run and workout.  Amanda is a machine!  I do not have the same motivation as she does when it comes to running.  We have different personalities, Jo is quieter, I am loud.  But we love each other the same.  The faults and the differences disappear and we can be totally ourselves when we are together.  We are truly blessed to have a friendship in which we can completely be ourselves and not have to apologize for it.  We are the perfect pair, a great match, the other half of each other.  We are best friends.

Autumn and Jodi

Autumn and Jodi copy

Hi! Im Autumn Dueck and my BFF is Jodi Wiebe. We have been best friends since we were in grade 7 and have been through EVERYTHING together. We’re both 21 years old and married. We were engaged at the same time and got married 3 1/2 months apart. We both have puppies, mine is a black lab and hers is a golden retriever. We love them! Our favorite thing to do these days is have doggie dates. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding and I was a bridesmaid in hers. Jodi is the greatest person you will ever meet. She is beautiful inside and out. She is always taking care of me (like being the one to remember toothpaste when we go camping!) and she’s also always laughing. You will absolutely LOVE this girl. Just being able to get to know her for the day, will be well worth it! The Picture attached is from one of the showers she threw for me when I was engaged.

Ayne and Brooke

26936_10150185325905161_528825160_12027191_910006_n copy

So…. where to start…
There is no one reason why Brooke and mine friendship is special. There are way to many to list! I think Brooke is the most awesomest, easy going, funny and unique gal out there. We love the same things, like movie quotes “Wanna see my special freckle? It’s got a hair in it!”  cracks us up EVERYTIME. (Diary of a Wimpy Kid) We both love to veg out late at night with Ben and Jerry’s cookie dough ice cream and coffee and talk about all the latest and greatest. We both drive beater cars that no one in their right mind would drive, but we don’t care. : ) (well, we do, but no one has offered us brand spanking new ones, and we haven’t won more then a donut in roll up the rim) And the main reason I would LOVE to win this, we have zero pictures of us. (Well, one.) Why? Mainly cuz i’m usually the ones behind the lens. Brooke plays such a ginormous roll in my life as a friend, sound board, shoulder to cry on and girl to laugh with till we cry . She is going into nursing, and with her bf living in Novia Scotia, our lives just might pull us apart in miles. I want to create lasting memories so no matter where we live, no matter where out lives take us, these years will never be forgotten. So please choose us!!!!

(Brooke)
I have known Ayne for about 5 years. In the past 3 years me and her have became very close friends. I have witnessed so many amazing growths with her, and have been through so much with her that its hard to even start on why she is my best friend. First off, her sense of humor, and the humor she brings out in me. She can lighten any mood with a quick joke and make me laugh when I am down. Ayne has been there for me through thick and thin. She has always supported me with everything that I do and will tell me to smarten up when I am being ridiculous. She is a true inspiration in my life. I look up to her in so many ways. She is an amazing mother to her child and wife to her husband, she takes pride in her job, family and friends. She is always a phone call away when I call to say hi, and when I am taking a study break. My favorite part about our friendship is late night coffee, movie and ice cream nights. I can talk to her about anything and she keeps an open mind and an open heart. She is the most amazing, hard working, dedicated person I know. I hope we win this contest because like she said, we have no pictures together, so how am I supposed to look at her when I am 1.5 hours away from her every week when I am in school? I promise to keep the picture under my pillow at night. But honestly, Ayne is my bestfriend, I could not imagine a better influence in my life, and my life with out her in it.

Crystal and Lisa

crystal and lisa copy

That’s me in the middle. I want to nominate Lisa and Crystal for this special day. These girls are besties in the best sense of the word. Sister’s by marriage and friends by choice. They are fun loving, carefree, and sassy women. I admire them both in ways that are hard to explain with words. They have both swam through some pretty deep pools these last couple years… Lisa having just come home after two years away in Papa New Guinea following a road filled with incredible sacrifice and wild adventures. Crystal has endured more than a mother should have to and has suffered loss in ways I can’t imagine. Through both of these strong women I have learned many lessons.. those of determination, a constant desire to serve family, willpower, and deep, deep love.

I think these girlies deserve this kind of day.. they are mother’s, sisters, daughters and the best kind of friends. Spoil them rotton!!

Gabrielle and Candidia Eileen

ceh and gh

candida and i. sisters-in-law. but friends foremost. two ladies who are addicted to each other. no get together is ever the same. they do however all involve laughter. lots of it. we’ve played “guess the hymn.” trying to distinguish condiments from one another using only the sense of smell was also interesting. spring, summer and fall bonfires are a must. Doing crosswords puzzles at coffee shops. laughing over our favourites episodes of “community,” or “modern family.” cycling with or without brakes and with or without air in the tires. sitting next to each other in a church pew. neverending skates (and trips) on the river trail. road trips to see petroglyphs (native rock art), sausage being made, the beach for hours on end, mountain hikes, exploring little SK villages. there have been attempts at painting pictures, card making including a newfound “appreciation” for owls, bra shaped cakes with clever slogans and poetry video recordings. We even ran our first fun run together after 2 sessions of lacklustre training. thankfully, nine years after a fateful meeting at assiniboine park where she was trying to score bonus points with a potential future in-law, we have a lot of memories to look back on and cherish. outside of all these entertaining recollections though is a relationship of encouragement. trust. and even love. a day without an email from her is a day that is less complete. her generous nature and humble spirit make this a very easy relationship. though these past 12 months have been the most challenging and growth inducing for each of us, we have become stronger, bolder and more beautiful together!

Heidi and Selina

Heidi and Selina copy

Born only 1 day apart, this friendship was meant to be from before the beginning! The first days of our lives began only one room apart but we were only officially introduced around grade 2 when we were put in the same class.  Our younger days were filled with arts & crafts, learning to manage money with a lemonade stand, learning life lessons from reading Archie comics and generally being silly.  We had a 2 year hiatus around junior high but a highschool play brought us back together again and we couldn’t remember why we ever stopped being friends!

Who could forget choir trips to Winnipeg, Russell Manitoba (!!!) and Banff, CMYC, killer survivor parties complete with rice and caricatures of all the players, going to the triple, individually labeled bags of popcorn in tow, watching crappy movies that are rented just because they’ll be bad, playing singstar, going to concerts, playing games..the list goes on.

The great thing about us is that we just kind of get each other.  We both just understand the other person, whether it be likes or dislikes, mood or thoughts and we don’t even have to be doing anything to enjoy each other’s company.  Our friendship works because we are both really easy going and never get mad at each other.  It is really hard to find a friendship where you never argue or fight. We feel very lucky to have each other in our lives, and we’d like to end with a quote from one of our favorite movies:

“ok, so you’re feeling blue, so you know what it’s time for???? SUPERMODEL DOCUMENTARY HOUR!”

Jen and Bria

Jen and Bria copy

It’s been said that God brings people into each others lives for “a reason, a season or a lifetime”…we like to think that ours is a lifetime. We are Bria and Jen, this is our ‘little’ friendship story. With all the people who come and go it’s hard to believe that we’ve been friends for 24 years, but it’s true, we met in Sunday school when we were 4 years old. We hit-it-off right away; attending summer camps, having sleepovers, and playing dress-up. We were fast friends. Unfortunately Bria’s family moved away when the relationship was just picking up. Jen specifically remembers the day she heard the bad news and was crushed.

We lost touch for a period of time but met again when we began attending the same Jr.High. We re-connected quickly and our friendship has flourished ever since. While we didn’t share the same friends in Jr. and Sr. High we did share a love for punk-rock, cargo pants, short hair and guitars (oh the things we do as teenagers). We made time for each other; sharing our faith, our struggles, our crushes, our love for theater and even our homework.

After high school our lives started to take different paths when Bria left Winnipeg to travel Australia and Jen went to University. We could have easily drifted apart but we chose to stay in touch and Jen decided that e-mails just weren’t cutting-it. Jen dropped out of school, hopped on a plane and traveled halfway around the world. We went down the coast of Australia staying in sketchy hostels and swimming the Great Barrier Reef.

Upon coming home Bria got engaged and Jen went back to University. Yet again our lives began to take a turn but we weren’t deterred. Bria has two kids and Jen is working on her second degree. Although on the outside our lives look very different on the inside we’ve become more like sister’s than friends. It hasn’t always been easy, and like any relationship we’ve needed to be open, honest and intentional but we wouldn’t trade it for the world and we’re looking forward to what the next 24 years bring.

Jenelle and Tammy

Jenelle and Tam copy

Being the only girl and the baby in a family with two brothers, I always wanted a sister. I never thought that at the age of 19 I’d get that wish! Tam and I have been friends since grade three.  We had years that we didn’t really hang out since we were in different schools, but when we were reunited in high school it was as though we had never been apart! From cruising when we got our drivers, to many late nights laughing till it hurts, shopping trips, being the maid of honor in her wedding and even sharing the same career and love for hairstyling, I  know that no matter what might be going on, I always have a friend to go to. Most girls best friends don’t marry their brothers, I couldn’t be luckier!

Kari and Megan

Kari and Meg copy

Let’s look back to the late 1980′s (yikes, do we dare!?), 2 little Menno girls meet at Sunday school. Little did we know that would be the start of what keeps us sane over the next 20+ years of life! Over-look the crazy hair, crazy tall, and crazy clothes of those times, and you have one timeless friendship. Now we’re designing clothes, designing wedding flowers, chasing children, laughing at husbands. You’d think we’d have a better picture than this, but with all these things in our lives, all we are left with are blurry pictures! PLEASE, help us Kara and Becky! We’re desperate to capture these funny times in our lives with some pictures that ROCK! We NEED you to help! PLEASE?!?!

Lisa and Nellie

IMGP2493 lis nel -2

It’s hard to put 31 years of friendship into one paragraph!  Lisa and I go way back to age 5.  I can’t even remember when she wasn’t my friend.  Being in the same class from grade 1 to grade 12 gave us a lot of time to really get to know each other and influence each other.  There was even one Winter when I convinced both of us that wearing only dresses to school was the more “religious” thing to do.  There are many memories; especially ones that involve sports.  Our goal in grades 5 and 6 was to complete our school work as quickly as possible  so we could head off to the gym to play badminton and practise our jump rope tricks.  We also played outfield on a baseball team for many years.  We both wanted to catch the ball in the worst way.  One time as the ball was hit between right and centre field we both ran for it, we both called it, and we both missed it as we crashed together.  We laughed, but our coach didn’t.

After High School Lisa got married and moved away to Texas.  I moved to Saskatoon and then returned to Winkler 10 years later to work and get married.  Even with the distance and being in very different seasons of life, our friendship remains honest and strong.  We love to have fun but we also know each others deep struggles and know when to ask about it and when not to.  She’s my best friend; the one I shop with, tan with, share favourite songs with, laugh with, cry with and hope to be in the same seniors home with…playing skip bo!

Nina and Denay

Nina and Denay copy

Seven years ago, The Angel of Friendship brought Nina and Denay together on a park swing. Nina was from Alberta, and Denay from Manitoba. They exchanged addresses and wrote to each other faithfully for years, encouraging and uplifting one another. They weren’tconfined to letters; they kept in contact by every form of communication known to man. They built an extremely strong bond, and always hoped they could live closer. They dreamt of having adventures and when they got together about twice a year they lived out months of crazy adventure planning packed into about three days. They live life to the fullest, being carefree, with endless laughter and fun. Even though they were so far away across the map, they were close at heart. So close, that sometimes they would have the same dreams at night! Four months ago, God brought Nina and her family to live in Manitoba and now the two live 20 minutes apart! They get together daily, but still treasure every moment. They know their friendship is a gift from God and is extremely unique and something most people don’t find in their lifetimes.

Samantha and Julie

Samantha and Julie copy

This is my best Julie Nickel, and myself-Samantha Dyck.  Julie and I have been Best Friends since grade 1, just like every relationship we have had our ups and downs but through it all we have stuck by each other and loved each other through tough times!  We like just hanging out with each other, doing crazy things and one of our favorite things to do is just rent a movie and watch it and just enjoy the company of each other!  I think our friendship is special because we are not just best friends.. we’re sisters. I know that I can go to Julie for anything and everything, and she can do the same. I can’t tell you how much Julie means to me, because I honestly don’t have words to describe the love I have for her.

Terri and Sandi (aka Peach & Babe)

Terri and Sandi copy

We have been best friends our entire lives.  We grew up riding the same bus to school, and we owe a lot of our friendship to that big, yellow bus.  It was on that bus where we would joke around, share our deepest secrets, and where our “secret truce handshake” originated.  The time we spend together is never boring.   On this particular day shown in our picture, we were driving to a grad ceremony, in a Jeep, with no roof, TRYING to save our hair from disaster.  That is just one awesome memory we share together, and there are so many more:  going shopping with our “shopping names”, traveling to California together and riding every roller coaster in sight, and Terri walking down the aisle with Sandi as her maid of honor. Our friendship is one that will never “drift apart” with time and distance, as it has stood strong since we graduated in 2007 and haven’t lived close to each other since.  We are truly BFF’s (best friends forever…duh).  :)

Tracey and Steph

Tracey and steph copy

Hey, I’m Tracey and my best friend is Steph. I love her to death! There aren’t enough words to describe the incredible friendship we share but I’ll do my best to give you a snapshot…We’ve been friends since meeting in junior high and our friendship has grown and strengthened through days spent laying on the beach, our love of banana split milkshakes, rollerblading, long drives with no destination, boating and tubing with my family, snowboarding – its a blast to have someone else tumbling down the hill laughing right beside you!, shopping – even when we really don’t have money to spend…, late night tim hortons runs, sleepovers, working – my first three jobs were all spent working with her!, cooking suppers together, starting and finishing high school, being there for each other through family deaths, battles with depression and heart breaks… Through everything she has been the one I can always call, either for a shoulder to cry on or a sweet time filled with a ton of laughs! I love our friendship because in addition to all the laughs and good times we can tell each other anything and count on the other to give their opinion and perspective but trust that it ultimately never changes our opinion of each other – no matter what we’ve always got each other’s love and support. We hate conflict so we’ve never really fought but we’re comfortable enough to always say how we feel, deal with it and move on quickly. While I have been on the road across Canada with Beautiful Unique Girl for the past nearly eight months and Steph’s been working back home our friendship’s had to experience something new – long distance. I was really scared to leave, afraid our friendship would suffer but that was crazy thinking! We’ve kept in touch through texts, letters, email, phone calls… and everytime we call or I come home for the holidays it feels like nothing’s changed – we just pick it right back up where we left off. :) I’m so excited to come home at the end of May and spend another awesome summer with my incredible bff!

We bonded like glue
everything we’ve been through

Hopes, secrets, & dreams we share

Two roads taken, but still we find
best friends don’t leave eachother behind

No relation, yet we share the same name

Just over a week ago Kara and myself set off on the long awaited best friends photoshoot with Sonya and Joelle.  After they had their hair and make-up done by Tracy (she did such a FAB job!) they head into Winnipeg with Kara and I met up with them once they arrived.  The top secret theme for the photo shoot was the ultimate girls road trip!!  And to make it feel like an authentic road trip we surprised the girls with a pretty sweet ride for the day!!

I can’t say enough what a pleasure it was to photograph these two girls!  They were so sweet and it was so much fun to watch them laugh and goof off together like I do with my best friends.  They were SO comfortable being themselves in front of the camera making the job of photographing them SO easy!

Kara….thank-you so much for dreaming up this grand idea together with me, from the moment we sat for dinner that one night and schemed up this great theme I knew it was going to be nothing but an outstanding day!  I feel so privileged to have been able to shoot with you…you inspire me to think outside of the box and challenge myself!  I think it was so perfect that this contest was themed around friendship because your friendship is something I value SO MUCH!

On to some photos….and a slide show at the end of the post…ENJOY! Click here for Kara’s photos!!

P.S. Thanks to the amazing Genevieve (the creative genius behind my blog and logo!) who helped me fix my blog today when I had thought I broke it! :)

I’m proud to present our group of contest entries!!  I can’t tell you how enjoyable it was to read all these stories.  I know how important it is to have a best friend who listens, consoles, shares your taste in movies, music, shopping, has the same shoe size and is someone you can travel with (not just anybody makes a good travel partner…this I know!).  The bond of women is so strong and so important, it’s wonderful to hear so many stories of (as Anne of Green Gables would say) Kindred Spirits.  Thank-you. Thank-you. Thank-you for sharing your stories with us!

Now we’re leaving the hard part of voting to everyone else out there in cyber space….at the bottom of this post you will find a poll where you can vote for the ultimate BFFs and choose who you think deserves some glam and photos! You can only vote once…so chose carefully!

1.Ashley & Amy

Heart of Life

Our story begins on an airplane en route Thailand.  A few months prior, we were both itching to escape the upcoming Winnipeg winter and were craving some adventure.  Luckily, through mutual friends we were introduced and without much thought or consideration, we promised to travel together by the sacred bondage of a pinky swear.  Months passed, and Amy went away for the summer while Ashley worked to save money for their trip.  The date of departure quickly arrived and a beautiful relationship was about to begin.  One would have to agree that our plan was risky and could have ended in a disaster, but luckily the exact opposite happened.  After a twenty-one hour flight we knew that we were kindred spirits, a perfect balance and a flattering TopShop fit to each other.  When Amy was negative, Ashley was positive; when Ashley was anxious, Amy was relaxed.  Without each other, the trip would not have been nearly as amazing as it was.
After coming home, our friendship continued to grow.  We spend hours reminiscing, watching scuba diving dvds, having bake-a-thons and cook-offs and daydreaming about upcoming adventures (usually over non-fat cinnamon dolce lattes and tunes by either Jack Johnson, Kanye or Michael Franti & Spearhead.)
Our friendship is real, effortless and natural.  We are so blessed to have found a sister in each other that will never judge, always love and forever support and encourage one another. Here’s to many more years to come, cheers. <3

2. Carmelle & Mavis

Carmelle: I don’t recall the specifics as to how Mav and I hooked up, but what I do remember is that at the beginning of the Grade 8 year I had an absolutely instant joined-at-the-hip, read-your-mind, finish your sentences, do everything-with, kind of best friend. Nothing and everything have changed over the years! Our lives have developed very differently, but no matter what, no matter when, our connection is instant. Mav was for me, the sister I never had but always hoped for and wanted. But even better. Its hard to explain what makes it work…but you can’t always explain awesome chemistry! We draw out different qualities in each other – she brings me out of my shell, and stretches my adventurous & fun side that she knows is there, just hidden…and maybe I bring her back to reality and pull out those characteristics that linger just underneath the surface. Whatever it is, life hasn’t changed our friendship and it is just amazing to have each other – it goes beyond what I could have imagined friends to be. Our memories haven’t just ‘been’ made to look back on, but are continually being made.

Mavis: A friendship that can withstand the years…
We met in grade 8. I had friends here from before, when I used to live here but something was just not clicking right…until i met Carmelle. This girl in my class confident, beautiful and so sure of herself. Would she even want to be friends with me?
Well you can guess what happened. instant click. I had my sister I had never had.
We have gone through everything together: first jobs, boyfriends, cars, a marriage, some babies and a move to the city. Both changing into extremely different women in the process. The time spent together did change but that bond was always there. When people who have only known us in the last few years wonder how we are friends we can’t explain it. How do you explain something you yourself are in awe of? A friendship so strong and deep it can carry you through the big life changes and different paths taken in life.

My husband and I moved to a little quiet town in Alberta called Didsbury in 2007. I was 9 months pregnant with our first baby and went into labour 3 days after we moved into our new little house. I didn’t know anyone in Alberta, and especially in Didsbury where we were going to start our new life with our new baby named Lily Rose who was born in Calgary on November 28th 2007 at 1:36am. I would be alone with no friends and no family while my husband commuted one hour each way to work in Calgary.

Two weeks later we were in the quaint little grocery store in Didsbury with Lily in tow and a woman (Darci) came up to me smiling and asked how old our baby was. We told her and she was shocked to find out that Lily was born on the same day as her new baby Neve. We then figured out that Neve was born just two minutes after Lily at 1:38am and in the same maternity ward!!! So after we figured out we were pushing out babies at the same time, Darci gave me her number and a picture of Neve and we soon got together with our two babes.

Our babies were astrological twins and Darci and I instantly became great friends having so much in common and having an instant connection to each other. Over the next few months we went out together all the time, Darci showing me around the area and Calgary and all the cool spots to go, farmers markets, great restaurants, u- pick farms and tea houses, and where to get the best beef-jerky in the municipality! We would have Yorkshire tea almost everyday together and we would have many a bbq with our 2 families. Our girls all became friends and Darci and her family came to Manitoba for our wedding last summer. We had such a great time with them at the wedding and then at Victoria beach the following week!

Sadly, my husband and I made the move back to Winnipeg and had to leave our fabulous friendship with Darci and her family behind. But only physically! We still talk almost everyday on the phone and we are still making plans for some big adventures this summer. Yellowknife maybe?

Darci is one of those special people in my life that I instantly loved and will love for the rest of my lifetime. We know that our two beautiful little girls brought us together for a reason, and we will make sure that they grow up knowing each other and hopefully they will find that same connection over their lifetime.

We would love to have another reunion here in Manitoba with the four of us together again! Any excuse!

4. Deana & Jenni

When my best girlfriend sent me the link I started to think about what made her such a great friend. She is night to my day!!  She is wonderfully organized—I’m an organized mess .   She is a gorgeous tall blond— I’m short and darker.  She is as comfortable behind the lense as she is in front of it and I don’t see any reason ever to take a picture!!  But when it comes to things like knitting, shopping and conversation you just know that it was a friendship meant to be!!  We have been friends for almost  11 years now—if I said 12 like she thinks then I probably would have received an invite to her wedding!

Sadly we don’t live just blocks apart anymore—some how the miles don’t seem to matter.   She’s the first one I call or tell and when it comes to finding just the right outfit there is no one I trust more!  In a perfect world friends would never move away but with her I know that many years from now she is the first one I will call to help me cooridinate my house coat and bedspread at the old folks home!!  I also have the added bonus of having her as my hair stylist—how many girls can say that!!

I can’t think of anyone else I would love spending the day with doing something like this!!  I know that she will totally be in her element  and love that she pushes me to expand mine!  If nothing else it’s a day to enjoy hair, make up, clothes, and fun with my best friend!  What’s not to like and maybe, just maybe, we will come away with a picture of the two of us!! Like I said earlier—I don’t really do pictures and so we have no digital pics together—the last one of us was before one of us had a digital camera!! Sad I know!

-Jenni

Hi!  To tell you the truth….I don’t even have ONE digital image of my best friend and I!!!  We have been friends for about twelve years now, and haven’t managed to get a photo together….crazy I know!!!  Anyways, let me tell you about my friend.  She is the best.  Even though we live apart now, she always saves my spot on her couch when I come to visit.  I love that I can call her anytime of the night or day, and she always has time to chat or just give me her opinion on what clothing items work together!  It is true….we are opposite on lots of things, but also complement eachother greatly!  I don’t think we have ever had a girl’s weekend away…probably because we would break the bank with our shopping…but always getting the best deal.  I don’t think I will ever live down not inviting her to my wedding, but we seriously just met!!  Had I know we would become the closest of friends, she would have been standing right up next to me.  But we can’t go back in time…just forward.  If we won this, it would mean capturing 11ish years together.  I just know we would have a blast!  And she deserves to feel as beautiful as she looks!

5. Jenna & Kristin

Hi I’m Jenna and my best friend is Kristin.
Kristin and I are the ultimate best friends because we love each other no matter what and even though we’re different we just can’t get enough of each other. I go to university in Winnipeg, while Kristin works in Morden. We always make time for each other on weekends and keep in touch as much as possible even though we still tend to miss each other during the week. The one thing that makes us different from regular best friends is that we don’t know how we came to be best friends. We pinned to a day that we played at fun baseball tournement in Plum Coulee, and went to the bathroom together and from there its history. We have been best friends since then, which was 3 years ago. Our friendship is not perfect, but thats what makes it so interesting because sometimes we fight like we’re dating and don’t see eye to eye. In the end we always work it out and we still love each other. We both to go camping and do random fun things, like hide in her brothers truck box to scare him, teepee peoples cars and ly in the middle of the road and watch the traffic lights change, like in the notebook. Even though we love to do things we can spend a whole day together and do absolutely nothing, and be totally content with that. Kristin is my very best friend and I think that this would be an excellent way to start off an exciting summer of living closer together and seeing each other as often as we like.

6. Kayla & Heidi

My name is Kayla Fehr and this is a picture of me and my best friend Heidi Wiebe. As you can probably tell we are crazy, goofy girls who like to do some of the strangest things together. I met Heidi my first year at Winkler Bible Camp, 16 years ago, and we have been pretty much inseparable ever since! It takes a very special friend to stick with you for so many years. Together we have survived the perils of jr. high, the fears of starting highschool, family deaths, broken hearts and the uncertainity of life after highschool. She’s been there to pick me up when life has knocked me over, a shoulder to cry on, and a willing listener when I’ve needed someone to talk to. She’s also given me tons and tons and tons of laughs, so many crazy adventures and wild ideas. From pictures in an alligator pool in a tennis court, to taking photos of a dressed up cooked chicken, to finger painting in the cafeteria during grade 12 spares she has filled my life with many great stories and warm memories and extremely hilarious adventures! What makes us such special friends is that we can be absolutely bonkers together and have tons of laughs and she’ll still be there with a hug and a box of kleenex when life gets tough. She is the most amazing best friend a girl could ever dream of and I wouldn’t have made it this far without her. She’s loyal and trustworthy and always dependable and I hope and pray I have been as good a friend to her as she has been to me. Since we often like to have our own random little photoshoots I thought this would be the perfect thing for me and her, and perhaps a small way of saying thank you for all the years of friendship that I just couldn’t live without!

7. Kelli & Karla

Kelli and Karl’s
Thoughts on a special friend

My special friend

She is a beautiful person inside
and out, there was a powerful bond that brought us together about 12
years ago.

Our friendship was instant as if it was planned to have
happened like clock work. We are a perfect blend together and we bring
out the best in each other.

We are such special friends because of the
respect we have for one another, the loyalty we show towards each
other, the interpersonal ties we share, the in depth conversations we
have and the fact that we don’t and will never let each other stand
ALONE in a crisis.

Our friendship is valued as if we were sisters; we
enrich one anothers lives and are blessed to have such a great gift of
friendship for one another. She is my best friend and I will always
cherish our time together.

My special friend is:

A ray of  sunshine

Pure as water

Trustworthy

understands my feelings and moods

there  for the bad and the good

Honest

Kind

Supportive

Caring

Most of all my sister I never had and my best friend!

8. Laura & Mary

Once upon a time there were two eleven year old girls, who were ten days apart in age. The first girl, Laura, could not wrap her mind around the other’s family structure. The other girl, Mary, had five brothers and sisters. Laura had never known a family so large. While Mary, thought Laura was a little nerd.

One cold Winnipeg night the girls were sat side by side in a Babysitting prep class. Together they practiced bandaging each other up from fictitious wounds and learned to change diapers, laughing the entire time. The laughter still continues to this day. Mary now knows Laura is a nerd, but appreciates it. Laura loves Mary’s large family and enjoys spending time with them.

The two have been best friends for more than eleven years. Although through this entire time the girls were not side by side, they were always close. They have been there for each other through every achievement, heart break, and fashion mishaps alike.

You can often find them shopping, dreaming up capers, or, most often, laughing till it hurts.

Because they think the other is hilarious (and have the same size feet), they are best friends.

9. Lorraine & Amanda

Amanda and I met about 12 years ago in high school and
became great friends from the start.  We were roommates in high school and after graduating spent numerous days and nights hanging out and having fun in our care free, youthful days.  We got married around the same time and were each other’s maids of honor.  Over the years we have always supported, encouraged, advised and celebrated with each other through trials and triumphs.  More recently we have both become mothers.  This has strengthened our bond and even though our lives are very busy at the best of times, we have always made a point of making time for each other as we are now more than just friends.
But with the ever growing demands of our lives we sometimes feel as though we’ve lost ourselves, finding it hard to find time to just be “you”.  We hope that this contest will give us an opportunity to have time to reconnect with ourselves and each other, giving us the time to enjoy our friendship and add to the many memories we’ve created over the years.  The photo shoot would be a record of our time together and reflect how much we mean to each other.

10. Merrilee & Sheryl

My Sister…. My best friend!  Sheryl and I are 6 years apart but the age difference feels smaller as time passes.  We have always been there for each other, through thick and thin… Even way back in the day when I was so into her boyfriends, that she would have to lock me out of the room…. Tee hee. I missed her and her bubbly and optimistic attitude the minute she got married and moved out of the house.  For years, I saw their home as my second home, and basically grew up being there every weekend.  Still can¹t believe that she let me hang out at her house them being newlyweds and all but I will forever be grateful for the great example and friend she was to me then and now.  Now that we are both married and have children of our own, we continue to grow in our friendship, and in the things we have in common. I adore her little princess¹ as I don¹t have a girl of my own, and she loves my boys as they are her own, which is something that you can¹t even attempt to put into words.  Her friendship means so much to me, and knowing that she is ready to talk, laugh or even cry with me at any time of the day (even if it is past midnight and Tim Horton’s and a shoulder to cry on is in order) is something that I feel very blessed to have.  Sheryl is incredibly intelligent, positive, funny, hard working, spontaneous, a great listener, incredibly beautiful, and filled with an incredible amount of love.  She has an incredible heart and I love her for how she continues to encourage and motivate me to be a better person…. to take risks and aspire to make all my dreams come true.  We are constantly asked if we are twins and have come to the point where very often we will just smile, and pretend that the person who is smiling at us, is someone we know (to avoid people thinking that the person they think we are is snubbing them off… Ha ha). Friends like this are irreplaceable and I cherish her with all my heart and soul. There is nothing I wouldn’t do for you girl friend!!! Love you Sheryl!  XOXOX

11. Sarah Joy & Michelle

My name is Sarah Joy. The pictures I attached (one silly and one of us normal :P ) are of myself and my best friend Michelle. Michelle and I have been friends since we were in College about 4 years ago. There are a lot of things that make us special apart but more importantly special together! We have both had our struggles and extremely hard times, but with the love of sisters, even if not by blood, we have endured them together. In college Michelle and I both struggled  with different situations but no matter what I knew that she was there for me and she knew the same of me. We made it through a long distance friendship even when she was living in Thunderbay and I was here in Winnipeg. I am lucky now that she is only as far as Portage La Prairie :) . Through out my years I have had many different friendships and they are all unique in their own way but Michelle and I have grown to be more than friends. We share the important situations, her wedding, my break off of a wedding…etc, and we love each other completely. I respect her for the intelligent, beautiful, and fun woman she has become. I could not imagine her missing out on my triumphs and failures in life. We’ve recently hit another rough spot in the road, but as always I am right by Michelle’s side, if not physically, then in spirit, and I know that we’ll get her through.

Apart Michelle and I are both vibrant, fun, and sociable girls. Together we are strong, loving, supportive, and most of all…best friends :)

Thank you for having this wonderful contest! I think it’s important that women remember just how important the “non blood” sisters in our lives are to us!

12. Sonya & Joelle

To actually describe what a best friend is, would be utterly impossible, and the description of the friendship Joelle and I have could not fit in a single paragraph.  Joelle and I have been through so many ups and downs, twists and turns, and rocky roads, but yet our friendship holds strong.  I’d say the one thing that binds us is our sense of humor.  This is a priceless quality.  We seem to bring out the comedic sides in each other.  Whenever I am with her I am sure to expect a dose of the laughter, whether it be our amazing music video of our rendition of “My Milkshake Brings All The Boys To The Yard” or having a “who can make the ugliest face” contest, documented by many photos over the years!  We can now look back and laugh at the fact that years ago we dated the same guy (not at the same time), and it’s hilarious to us now.  Only best friends can make the best out of an awkward situation.  There are times in life when I probably would have never made it without my best friend.  When Joelle’s mom was diagnosed with cancer, I was there.  When I went through a rough break-up, Joelle was there.  She is the first one I call when things just aren’t right in life.  I can tell you this.  If I was ever thrown in jail, I probably wouldn’t call Joelle to bail me out.  She would be the one sitting beside me in the cell.  She is my Godsend and I love her to pieces!

13. Tonya & Katie

Katie and I have only been friends since, my second year at Minot State University.  Our love for art brought us together, now we are inseparable. I am Katie’s model for her photography classes, and she is my brainstorming partner when coming up with ideas for graphic design projects.  Until I met Katie I was focused on being a mature adult but, she has taught me that having fun and acting silly is much better.  So we are crazy even when everyone else is watching but, who cares.  That’s what friends are for right?

14. Tracy & Steph

Hey!  We are tracey fehr (the blonde one) and steph thiessen (the brunette one) and we the bestest of friends!  We became sweet friends at the start of grade eight… all of stephs best friends had switched schools and so tracey prayed the night before that she and steph would become better friends, so steph would have someone close to have fun with at school.  our friendship has since grown stronger through being there for fun and advice – good news, bad news… she’s the first one i go to.  we ecourage each other and support each other and we have crazy fun times together – all the time!  we’re like part of each other’s families; we do almost everything together.  we have so many things in common, like our love for christmas, banana split milkshakes, the colors pink and purple!, snowboarding and of course batman (the dark knight).  but we have enough differences that make being with each other always interesting – like steph is incredibly independant and outgoing and tracey is much more dependant and shy and while steph can bring tracey out of her shell, tracey can mello steph down.  it’s never a dull moment, we always have too many adventures, too many stories… not enough ears. :P
